If you want a healthy organic garden, you have many options. You just need to learn the methods and use them.
Your children will enjoy the experience of working with you in the organic garden. Gardening is a great way for children to learn, and it gives you two a chance to spend some quality time together and produce healthy food.
A mixture of aspirin and water can protect your plants from common diseases. One and one half aspirin crushed and added to a two gallon container of water will be a great help for your plants. Help your plants to fight disease by spraying them with the aspirin water. Try to apply the mixture to the plants at least once in each three week period.
It can be extremely fast and easy to plant perennials into your garden. Using a garden spade, dig underneath the turf and flip it. Then, create a layer of wood chips at least three inches deep over the area you just flipped. Allow a few weeks to pass by before you dig down into the applied soil.
Keep your gardening tools close by to maximize gardening efficiency. You can keep them in a good sized bucket, or wear utility pants that have plenty of large pockets. Keep your gloves, pruning shears, a hand spade and your other tools handy to quickly and easily do your garden maintenance.
Work properly in your garden. Keep all of your tools together; do not waste time looking for them! Prepare them all ahead of time and have them handy before you need to garden, and then put them back in their place when done. Even something like a carpenter’s tool belt or some cargo jeans work well to keep tools organized.
It never hurts to keep a few bags around the house to protect your floors from dirty gardening shoes. You will be able to go in and out without having to keep taking your shoes on and off.
Don’t let all the little chores in your organic garden build up. If you can’t get out in your garden every day, there are still a number of things you can do to keep things from falling into disarray during your absence. If you put the dog outside, weed a few spots in the garden while your dog goes to the bathroom.
Dried Plant Material
Use equal parts of green and dried plant material in your compost pile. Green plant mulches include everything from fresh grass clippings, to unwanted vegetables, to recently pulled weeds. Dried plant material, however, can include items such as cardboard, sawdust and shredded paper. Don’t throw charcoal, meat or manure into your compost.
Use a beer trap to get rid of unwanted pests, like slugs. Get a clean, empty glass jar to use as a trap. Bury it with its mouth facing upwards. Keep putting dirt over the jar until the mouth is at the surface of your garden. Fill it with beer to about one inch below the top of the jar. Slugs are attracted to beer. They will crawl into the jar and be trapped.
Gardening can be done by anyone, but only those armed with the proper information can get the most from their organic garden. Put this advice to work for you.
