A garden is not just something you do to decorate. It is not just an aimless pasttime for the hobbyist with a green thumb. It is something someone can do to add tranquility and peace to his or her house, as well as a way to appreciate life itself. When one is good at gardening, the rewards are outstanding.
Put sod down the right way. Be sure to get your soil prepared before you start laying the new sod. Remove weeds and break your soil until all the clumps are gone. Compress the soil lightly yet firmly, and make certain it’s flat. Dampen the soil completely. Then lay the sod in staggered rows so the joints are offset. Even out the surface of the sod by firming it down flat, filling any available gaps with a handful of dirt. Water the sod every day for a couple of weeks. Then it should be rooted well and ready for foot traffic.
Clay Soil
Many times when digging in clay soil the clay will adhere to the shovel, which will make it much harder to dig. Use a thin coat of floor or car wax on your shovel, then buff it with a nice clean cloth to make dealing with clay soil easier. This will keep the soil from sticking, and prevent rusting of the tool.
Create useful rulers from your tool handles. You can use shovels or rakes as measuring sticks. Just run some measuring tape right on the floor next to the handles. Label the distances onto them using a permanent marker pen. When you are gardening next, you’ll have a ruler beside you at all times.
Baking Soda
You do not need store-bought chemical treatments for plant mildew. Plain water with a bit of liquid soap and baking soda will do the trick. You then want to spray this mixture on your plants one time a week until you notice the mildew disappear. Baking soda is not harmful to your plants and will take care of the issue as well as any other treatment.
Take the information you’ve gleaned from the tips presented here, and make your garden live again. When you see your plants and flowers alive and flourishing, you will feel a sense of happiness that you helped to make that happen. Gardening can work wonders on a hectic and stressful lifestyle, and provide many benefits to just about anyone willing to work at it, so get outside and enjoy.
