Organic gardening is a great way to grow your own food at home and relax at the same time. Newcomers to organic gardening, however, can easily find themselves overwhelmed. So, what exactly should a novice learn and do when they want to start growing plants? They should read this article, obviously!
So that you don’t shock your plants, try gradually accustoming them to conditions and temperature. Place them outside in the sunlight for an hour or two on the first day. After a week, leave your plants outside for twice as long. By the week’s end, your plants should then be ready for the big move!
Cover the fences and walls with climbers. Known commonly as climbers, these plants are very versatile, easy to grow, and they will quickly spread out to cover up walls and fences within a single season. Climbers can also be trained to grow and cover an arbor, and they will grow through or around existing trees and shrubs. There are natural climbers, which use tendrils or stems to wrap around any given surface, while others must be tied with a string or rope. Reliable varieties include wisteria, honeysuckle, climbing roses, clematis, and jasmine.
Be sure to buy a wheelbarrow and a kneeling stool that you can use for your garden. Spending a lot of time near the ground working is very hard on the knees, so a lightweight and portable garden stool will make gardening more comfortable. A wheelbarrow will come in handy to easily move dirt, rocks and other heavy objects.
When tending a vegetable garden, you might find that pest control is a bit difficult. Do not spray harsh chemicals on the vegetables you are going to eat. To safely keep your garden pest-free, keep a sharp eye out. In many cases, you can simply remove the pests from your plants by picking them off.
Fall Colors
Plan your garden, and plant with fall colors in mind. This might not be the reason why. Foliage never looks as colorful and vibrant as it does in the fall. There are many variations in leaf color with different varieties of Maple, Beech and Dogwood trees that can give you lively yellows and deep crimsons. There are practically as many types of shrubs chosen for their fall colors are there are gardeners! Barberry, hydrangea and cotoneaster are particularly popular choices.
Choose one stand-out plant to be a focal point. There should be a solid focal point for every good garden design. More often than not, it is a plant that is distinctively different from its neighbors.
An English garden mixes plants of various kinds and sizes close together, which helps to give it a more multi-dimensional feel. You should avoid using plants of the same height so that your flower bed doesn’t look flat and uniform.
Pay attention to how much light your indoor plants are getting. If your residential space has limited sunlight, it will be best that you grow plants that are ideal for this type of environment. If you already have plants that need full light and the natural light provided is not sufficient, artificial lights can supplement their needs.
Your seeds, once they begin sprouting, don’t need the same amount of warmth as they did before. As your plants grow, move them away from the source of heat. Take any plastic film off of your containers because they hold in heat and humidity. Watch your seeds closely to find the right time to do this.
These tips probably gave you some insight into how to enjoy organic gardening. It provides so much opportunity for relaxation in a soothing environment and so much reward when the garden flourishes. Use these tips to see your garden flourish!
