Organic gardening can either be a nice, calming hobby, or a considerable annoyance. If you want to be a great organic gardener, follow these hints.
Always allow your plants to adapt gradually to any changes in light conditions, temperatures or soils, if you do not, you might shock them and cause them to die. Try placing them outside in sunlight for about an hour or maybe two the first day. As you continue the first week of the project, gradually extend the duration of sun exposure. By weeks end, you should have plants that are ready for a permanent home outside with no problem!
Baking Soda
Do not spend your money on chemicals to fight mildew. A great home remedy is to mix baking soda with water and a little bit of liquid soap. Once a week, spray this on plants to eliminate the mildew. Baking soda won’t harm your plants, and takes care of the mildew efficiently and gently.
If your soil has a problem with high alkaline levels, mixing in some coffee grounds that have been used is a great solution. The coffee grounds are an inexpensive way to give some acid back to the dirt. The right soil will make your vegetables taste better and make your flowers more vibrant and aromatic.
Try dousing weeds in your garden with boiling water to get rid of them. Any vessel of boiling water that you can carry safely can be used as an organic herbicide. Literally pour the water on the weeds, avoiding any wanted plants near them, and watch the weeds die over time. The boiling water will damage the roots of the weeds and will usually prevent further growth.
Mint is a very tasty herb that has a tendency to run wild in the garden if not kept in check. Control their expansion by confining them to a large pot. You have the option of planting the container with the plant to keep the roots from taking the garden over.
Take a look at planting berry-producing evergreens in your yard. They will provide a splash of color in the drab and dreary winter months when a lot of other plants have lost their colors. A few examples that you could go with include the American Holly, the Winterberry, the American Cranberrybush, and the Common Snowberry.
Get a wheelbarrow, and a stool so that you can kneel down while horticulture. It’s rough on your knees to spend lots of time on the ground kneeling or squatting. That’s why it’s a good idea to have a portable, lightweight garden stool on hand. You will need a wheelbarrow in order to perform various gardening chores, it is a good thing to have on hand.
